Bicton Blister and Bicton Lite

11/30/2014

Honiton Running Club had a great turn out at last Sunday’s Bicton Blister. This is a 10 mile race on Woodbury Common with the base at Bicton College. The route has changed from previous years but still includes a road section at the start and finish with the rest being sandy, stony and muddy paths around the Common. In previous years it has often been a freezing cold day but not so this year. The sun shone making conditions excellent. There wasn’t even too much mud around. Ceri Rees won the race in 59 minutes 27 seconds; the only runner who came in under the hour. Ben Stone was first back for Honiton finishing 19th in 1:08:52. Steve Selley had an excellent race coming 79th in 1:18:15. Hadleigh Davies only just made it to the start on time but he came next in 89th place in 1:18:46.  Rod Inglis won a trophy for coming 3rd in his age category coming 100th in 1:19:38 followed by Steve Davey 2 places and just 10 seconds later. Julie Payne was first lady back for Honiton coming 2nd in her category and 124th overall in 1:22:21. Richard Harris also arrived at the race with not too much time to spare but he was delighted with his race coming 132nd in 1:23:09. Bruce Strawbridge was next back coming 142nd in 1:23:49 followed directly by Mark Dallyn who finished 4 seconds behind. Judy Davey came 3rd in her age group finishing 154th in 1:24:46. Howard Bidmead was pleased with his run coming 181st in 1:27:32  as he has been injured recently. Mark Andow found the race tough but enjoyable coming 191st in 1:28:48. He was followed by Roger Saunders who isn’t as fit as he would like but came 196th , 8 seconds after Mark. Pippa Westall was next back coming 203rd in 1:29:24 followed by Shane Hudd who came 210th in 1:30:17. Louise Crisp found it tough but enjoyable to come 233rd in 1:32:29. Jim Hill thought it was a cracking race coming 265th in 1:36:23 and Tony Peek completed the Honiton line up to come 316th in 1:41:11. There were 442 finishers.

Young Florence Swan was the sole Honiton runner to take part in the 4 ½ mile Bicton Lite which follows much the same terrain as the Blister but not going quite as far. Flo had a great race coming 5th overall and 3rd female in 36 minutes 19 seconds. The race was won by Michael Lesniak in 29:43. All runners approved of the new route and agreed it was a brilliantly organised race by Exmouth Harriers so thank you to them and also thanks to the cheery marshals.
