London Marathon 2012

London Marathon Support Trip

Nick T. has booked a minibus from To-An-Fro to take any club members who would like to support our London marathon runners (Vanessa, Brent, Warren, Denis, Fran, Graham Rooms and Julie) on Sunday 22nd April. As before, we'll leave Honiton Garage at 06:00.  This gives us plenty of time to park near Tower Bridge around 09:00 and get pole position by the barrier to see the lead runners who will be closely followed by our Honiton Running Club runners!

As before, we'll leave after seeing our runners on the Embankment or the Mall. On the way home we're planning a short stop for a meal around 5pm - this time at a pub just off the A3 before Guildford.  It might be possible to adjust the minibuses if 8 people don't want to stop - one could carry straight on.

Those signed up
Nick, Sandra, John B, Ceri Oak, James Oak, Lara Oak, Nikki Gigg, Julian Gigg, Ruth Fenwick, Paul Lowman, Kevin Hawker, Sue Jones, Wendy Williams, Maggie Dillon, Gerry Evans.

Club Places

The club is a member of England Athletics and through this membership we are allocated places for the London Marathon. To request places the club secretary has to send the following info:
  • The number of first claim registered members in the club aged over 18.
  • The area the club is affiliated with.
  • The number of votes the club holds at its area's AGM.

This year we received just 2 places whereas in the previous 3 years we  had 3 places. The precise rules for allocating places are not given.

Club places are allocated according to the criteria in rule 9 of the club rules.

Club Charity 2012 - The Baton

This charity was started by our club president
 Alan Rowe
The primary mission of The Baton is to raise and maintain awareness amongst the British public about the reality of life for service personnel and their families in the British Armed Forces and to ensure that they are given the level of support that they are rightfully due.

The Baton’s aim is not to compete with existing forces charities – rather we aim to complement the activities of those charities by focusing on raising awareness about the issues, so providing them with additional support and backing.
