WHAT TEAMER IS ABOUT
The running club is trying out TEAMER as a way of sending out invitations to up-and-coming events or club activities and getting a quick and simple response. The advantage of the system is that it only takes two clicks to say whether or not you are attending and everyone can see who is going, not just the person doing the organising.
How the system works in practice and how useful it is remains to be seen, so the notes below are likely to be modified by experience.
Joining In
To take part in this system you need to send an email to John at [email protected] asking to be added to the club’s TEAMER list. You also need to include your mobile phone number in the email.
When John has added you to the HRC team on TEAMER you will get an email message like MESSAGE ONE below that Judy Day received.
Mobile Apps
There is already a TEAMER app for the iphone. An Android app is coming soon
How it works
There are three types of member on TEAMER
I am assuming that co-organisers have the power to set up an event and invite others to it. The list of co-organisers will expand to include anyone who wants to organise a club event. Events are not just races but included training activities and socials. In fact there is an “Other” option so anything else could be included. Ian’s walks for example.
Setting up other Teams
It is also likely that a Teamer member could set up their own TEAM so perhaps there could be:
Sending out an invitation to an event
A new event is set up on Teamer by one of the organisers.
The organiser selects from the members list those he/she thinks will be interested in the event.
The invitations are automatically sent to email addresses, but the organiser can also select to send a text message to a phone.
Once the selection has been made the invitations are sent out by a single click.
If the event is a few weeks away the invitations can be scheduled to be automatically sent out at some day closer to the event.
See MESSAGE TWO. The invitation sent to me (and from me) to a Friday evening training run
Costs
Teamer originally cost nothing for text messages, but now a team only has 200 free text messages per month (unused ones are not carried forward.) Messages in excess of 200 have to be bought in bundles of 100 @ £5.49.
Also if you reply to text message it will cost you 12p + VAT per reply.
It is unfortunate that Teamer has introduced this payment system as it means we shall use mainly emails for notifications and replies rather than text messages. Those who receive emails to their phones will not have a problem but others will need to check their emails frequently on their computer or other device. We obviously could use up our 200 free texts by sending to phones of those who prefer to use this method and who don’t mind the cost of a text reply.
Other Uses of Teamer
Teamer can be used to send messages, store documents and photos, and also to collect payments online. For example, we could use it to collect club subscriptions or payments for social activities.

- Primary team organiser: Currently John
- Team co-organisers (set by John): Currently Judy, Richard (Harvey), Roger

- HRC Juniors with Richard as the organiser
- HRC Social with the club social secretary as organiser.
